Quad slice helical CT is ideal for evaluation of acute chest pain/dyspnea. The underlying causes can be numerous, e.g., pulmonary embolism (a), infiltrates (b), tumor occluding pulmonary arteries (c), aortic dissection, pleuritis, pericarditis. The 10 -15 second scanning time reduces motion artifacts to a minimum. High concentration of contrast media can be achieved in the vessels. Simultaneously the amount of contrast media is minimized.
